Probably like many sewists I've been following along with many Me-Made May creations and posts. My big take away this year and what I've been really resonating with is the idea of assessing my wardrobe and determing what I actually wear alot. And while I love the idea of maxi dresses I rarely wear them. I made two Gypsy Moth dresses last summer-one of which I never wore and cut off the bottom tier to make a knee langth dress (thank goodness for short legs). I wore that dress countless times. I made a second one in a beautiful light pink linen-also maxi-and realize when pulling out summer clothes I only wore it one time. So yesterday, I bit the bullet and cut off the bottom tier, but left about 1/2 inch of the bottom tier attached. I had top stitched the layers so there was a nice edge finish dividing the second and bottom layer. I tossed it in the wash and just as I had hoped it frayed, but also has a slight ruffle at the bottom. I know I'll be wearing this dress a lot more this summer. I was inspired by one of the Argent&Sable pattern testers who left a frayed hemline on her dress. Linen dresses are so comfy and I really like a touch of funk and whimsy.

I'm getting ready to cut mine out today and am thinking of fraying some of the edges somewhere. I'm leaning toward along the inner edge of the pockets, but we'll see as I go along. Attached is photo of my "hacked" Gypsy Moth.
