The 'Spindle Ermine' kimono robe blends into the deep forest. This kimono has a natural linen outer and soft cotton lining, quilted together with sashiko stitching. The outcome is a medium-weight robe that is durable yet keeps getting softer over time.
SPINDLE ERMINE isn’t your typical robe. It is inspired by artists who experiment through science... And scientists who research the art of being alive.
When to wear:
Wear it as a house robe or out into the world, layered with as much wrinkly linen clothing as possible. It provides a similar amount of warmth as a light jacket or heavy cardigan. This unisex, ungendered piece is made for all types of humans.
The Fabric: 100% linen outer, 100% cotton lining.
We love linen because of its strength and durability. Linen is considered to be the strongest of all-natural fibers, and it's even been found to get stronger and softer with washes! We love both cotton and linen for their low environmental impact, breathability, comfort, and versatility.
The underarm and lining of the kimono feature a peek-a-boo of an alternate color. We can mix and match your colors of choice, so you can bring your personality into the piece! Color options are listed in the photos.
The Dye:
This entire garment is colored using natural dyes (pigments from plants) in our studio. Each dye bath has slight variations to it, making your garment beautifully one of a kind.

Outer: Black Tea Grey
Lining: Onion Yellow
The Sewing:
This piece is hand-sewn in our little New England studio. All inner and edge seams are finished, meaning they are prepared to outlive the most active lifestyles. The front left panel showcases a style of hand stitching called "sashiko"-- our favorite type of decorative Japanese stitching that provides reinforcement and stunning texture for the piece.
The Fit:
All of our garments are made to order and are sized to your custom body measurements. Please consult our sizing guidelines for instructions on taking your measurements. The kimono will reach just above your knees unless you specify that you would like it differently. The sleeves can be sewn to 3/4 length, to the wrist, or extra long (to be turned/cuffed, as seen in the photo) depending on your preference.
If you have additional sizing requests, we are happy to accommodate them! Please just shoot us an email with the details at CharlieDarwinCo@gmail.com.
Care Instructions:
For longest-lasting wear, we recommend machine wash cold & delicate, preferably in a mesh garment bag, then tumble dry on a delicate setting until 90% dry; or hang dry.
