Mission: rejuvenate the sewing room vibes ✍️
Last month, I moved my home and sewing studio from Philly, PA --> Nashua, NH! I'm loving every single day that I've spent in this new home/studio; our little town is so cute and the community has been so welcoming!
As I've been settling in, I wanted to think a little bit harder about the vibes, feelings, and systems of my sewing studio/room. So I asked chatGPT (I've been calling it "Jeepie" lately) to give me some journal prompts to work through... ✍️ I enjoyed journaling on these prompts so much that I wanted to share them with you!
And even if you don't have a sewing/crafting room, I think these would be totally helpful for any room or workspace that you want to rejuvenate, now or in the future.
👋This is not about working toward some "Pinterest-worthy" ideal of perfection, but rather aligning your environment with your personal needs and energies.
Based on my journaling, I've already made quite a few changes to the new spot that are boosting my mood! You can hear all about the top 5 things I'm doing differently in my new studio, in my YouTube video this week 📺
So let's get cozy and try these out ⬇️⬇️
Journal prompts:
1. What tasks do I do most often in this room?
2. Where did I have the most resistance in my previous sewing room?
3. How do I want to feel when I walk in this room?
How could I bring more of these feelings to life in this room?
4. What is something I've always wanted in my sewing room, but never had?
5. What would make it even easier to clean and reset this room?
6. What does a dream day in my sewing studio look/feel like?
What could I do to support this dream?
7. What do I want this space to say about me?
Here are my answers, in case you're interested! 🙋♀️⬇️
1. What tasks do I do most often in this room?
Computer work, sewing, cutting, ironing, packaging
2. Where did I have the most resistance in my previous sewing room?
Tangled cords, printer issues, chaos of packing orders, no spot for my ironing machine to live, there is textile dust EVERYWHERE!
3. How do I want to feel when I walk in this room?
Surprised and delighted, like it pushes my boundaries artistically. Fresh air (not stuffy or dusty). At peace. Like it's MY room, not the internet's room (I don't want to feel constantly perceived). Artistic (not just a cliche of a "sewing girl"). Always slightly changing/shifting.
How could I bring more of these feelings to life in this room?
A little bit more color, possibly new art? An air purifier. Plants. Corkboard with shifting inspo or new artwork I've made recently. Hidden cords.
4. What is something I've always wanted in my sewing room, but never had?
A proper packaging station. A good photo wall. A magical dust-sucker. A friend :)
5. What would make it even easier to clean and reset this room?
An air purifier, a broom, a trash take-out schedule (and trash bags), dusting spray.
6. What does a dream day in my sewing studio look/feel like?
I'm cleaned up. It's the right temp. There's fresh air. I've got cold water. I magically have no emails to answer 🙀, and just the right amount of tasks to drop into my calendar for a calm, spacious day. I put on some good music/podcast/show and cut fabric (of which I have plenty in stock and it's already dyed!); my new projector method for pattern cutting is super quick and easy, and all my patterns are digitized. Or maybe I pack up some orders (perhaps they've already been sewn?!). My packing station is clean and efficient. Then I work on my next sewing pattern, or my email newsletter, possibly film a video... I'm done by 4pm with energy to live my life 🛶😎
What could I do to support this dream?
Biweekly cleaning/dusting/trash. Make more room for fabric and ironing. Order/dye a lot of fabric ahead of time. Hire someone to help me sew?!? Curate a cute packaging station. Digitize all my patterns. Have my photo gear ready to just pop-on for filming videos (so maybe a charging station and constant tripod up?)
7. What do I want this space to say about me?
Resourceful, earthy, quirky, fun. Simple in my systems, complex in my personality.
Enjoy!
& let me know if you try the prompts :)
