Hi! I'm Emy

I've been sewing for a looooong time-I'm pretty sure I was using my Mom's old Singer as soon as my feet could reach the pedal-and that pedal because it was an old machine-had a button that you pressed down with the big toe to make it go. My Mom was my teacher-she was a professional seamstress and I guess to save her sanity when she tried to sew at home she had to teach my brother and I both to sew. We started by tracing squares onto scraps and hand sewing little 9 patch quilts. I moved on to making clothes for my dolls and by the time I was in middle school I was making A-line skirts for myself and my friends. After I had kids I made a lot of clothing for my daughter and now I'm making clothes for her daughter! I'm retired and I make an effort to sew a bit every day and my linen wardrobe has grown so that I can just about wear only clothes that I have made-I love that! Sewing is my sanity and my escape and my creative outlet these days. I'm so glad I found Charlie Darwin-the patterns all just "work" for me. I got to be a tester for the Olene pants and now have 3 pair! I'm going to make the shorts version next. I've made the Sanctuary pattern in the long version and 2 in the short one. I've made several pair of Saltwater shorts and several tops, I've also made Gypsy Moth-one long one and one I left off the bottom tier so it's a knee length dress. I'm so looking forward to the release of the Argent and Sable dress! I get most of my linen from Fabrics-Store, but also some from Etsy stores. In my photo I'm wearing a vest I made this past winter from a gaberdine wool lined with a silky/satin print lining. I had enough to make a pair of shorts too that I wear with tights and booties. Not a bad look for an old gal! Anyway, thanks for starting this group-I look forward to interacting more as time moves along. Happy Spring to everyone!

I learned on a sewing machine that had a button to push with you big toe! I know my mom struggled with that machine but gosh what a workhorse!
