Charlie Darwin Textiles: Now in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania!

In August I moved my home/ Charlie Darwin sewing studio to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania!

Now that I'm all settled in, I'm so excited to start designing, sewing, and dyeing again :)

One of my goals for this season is to explore my new city and see how I can weave Charlie Darwin into the local arts & fashion scene. Because I started this business in the heat of the pandemic (2020), I wasn't able to carve out much of a space for local, in-person events in Rhode Island. I think a fresh start in a new place is just what I need to shake things up and make connections in real life!

🎉

See some sneak peaks at my new sewing and dyeing spaces...

(It might not be flooded with natural light, but...) My new basement sewing studio makes me SO happy!! It's much larger than my previous space and has a big laundry room that will be perfect for upgrading my dye experience! This means no more dyeing in my personal kitchen (woo!!)

Didya catch the newest collection?

📢

Right before I left, I had launched my SUMMER/FALL 2022 Collection which got such great feedback and these designs are some of my personal favorites to date. I actually wore the LADYBIRD dress on my first day of class in my new PhD program, and the JUNEBUG jumper to orientation -- both made it so easy to transition from a hot bus ride to an overly air conditioned classroom!

You can check out these newest pieces here...

The classics are still here, too!

If you've had your eye on a classic Charlie Darwin piece for a while, rest assured that I'm also still taking orders for all of my past designs as well, including the SWALLOWTAIL pants, CANARY peplum shirt jacket, the collection of kitchen linens, and enchanted wooden clothes hangers.

Coming soon 🙌:

I'm dreaming up a wide array of new items to make in the new space!

  1. With my new dye studio, I'm hoping to create and sell more naturally dyed fabric scrap bundles, plus I'll introduce naturally dyed fat-quarters and fabric sold by-the-yard (probably up to about 8 or 9 continuous yards?).

  2. I am designing some large wall tapestries using natural dyes and fibers!

  3. Still experimenting with making handmade linen "paper" from my tiniest scraps. Just working out the kinks on how to get it smooth and polished enough to write on.

  4. I have already made a mock-up of a linen laptop case that I've been using for school and LOVE. I just need to photo it and think about offering variable sizes (perhaps for ipads too?)

  5. Still gathering some inspiration for a new linen hoodie and casual work pants!

Stay tuned!
